We raise locally grown, true grass-fed beef and pastured pork, or what we call, "Jurassic Pork." We explain this on our Jurassic Pork page. As our animals are raised, they are treated humanely,carefully and in their natural environment. We know that humanely treated animals have the best chance of reaching their full potential both physically and mentally. These full potential cattle and hogs provide great tasting beef and pork much more easily and consistently. They are much less stressed and you know how stress affects you physically.
When feeding cattle and hogs, it is tempting to substitute grain, grain byproducts, meat and meat byproducts, drugs and confinement for grass, pasture and timber, because growing grass-fed beef and pastured (Jurassic) pork is inefficient (more costly and takes longer) by today's standards. Be assured, at Attadale Farm, grass means grass, pasture means pasture and timber means, well, you understand!!!
Looking at a Grass-Fed Beef and Jurassic Pork website, you may be concerned that this nation's meat supply might not be all that it could or should be and too much of what it shouldn't be. I believe you may be justified in your concern. As I aged, I began to develop what so many in our nation are also developing--elevated plaque in the arteries. Mine happens to be in my neck, the carotid arteries. They call it "inflammation." The build up starts as a child. The majority of our nation's beef and pork products contribute a higher degree than is necessary to this condition. As I began to earnestly search for solutions to my own problem I found a refreshing help in the beef and pork supply. The help came from true "grass-fed beef" and "Jurassic Pork." The help consists of a fatty acid profile change, vitamin increase and other benefits (we talk about this more on our "Grass-Fed Benefits" page). Perhaps an adjustment in your meat selection might be beneficial as well! But take solace, eating grain fed beef or confinement pork is not as bad as driving drunk. At least when you eat grain fed beef or confinement pork, like I was, you are risking your own neck and not somebody else's.

WE'RE LOCAL AND LEGIT!
We know and study our cows, hogs and, yes, bees, and care for them as such. We don't raise or bring our beef, hogs or honey from foreign countries, from other farms, or from thousands of miles away, saying, while hoping, that everything was done the way we say it is. We don't buy our cows or hogs after others have raised them and have done what only God and they know to them. Those kinds of operations are not farms but "clearing houses". Most of them have never owned or raised a farm animal. They are masters of marketing and make their money by assembling animals from numerous farms and selling them as their own (good luck on the ground beef). Our animals are raised on our farm and they grow up here. Some suppliers use clever marketing skills, like calling their beef, Omega Beef or using "Vegetarian, Free Choice" feeding programs or "Natural". Unfortunately, the Omega is an out of balance Omega 6 of grains, and seeds with Omega 3 which are unfit for cattle. The "Vegetarian" vegetable is corn, corn by products, kernals, or seeds. Sadly,some have resorted to feeding their ruminant, 4 stomach chamber cows a monogastric or single stomach human diet of popular seeds like flax seed, and/or grain and grain heads and silage. That's pretty tough on a ruminant cow because it is obviously not grass-fed. Additionally, the Omega 3 found in flax seed is significantly less valuable because the Omega 3 found in grass-fed cattle has a much longer molecular chain. The longer the chain, the better the Omega 3. This diversion appears to work in some price-centric communities that are distracted by marketing. These farms are able to over-price their grain fed cattle while still under pricing the grass-fed market. As you can see, for many farmers, it is almost impossible to kick the grain fed habit.
